"My body of work explores various subjects, through the contrast of different visual elements, symbolic drawings, and flat areas of irregular patterns. I create repetitive grid-forms, referencing architectural motifs, signage, and urban vistas, integrated with organic life forms that exemplify a life filled with contradictions.
Inspiration can be from my everyday experiences with people, design, architecture, current affairs etc. There are no particular rules to the motif. From figures, various organic elements, to geometric shapes and close inspection of architectural details, the idea is to explore a subject and tell my story of the world that surrounds me.
I work mostly in oil, but I love to experiment with the addition of different materials in order to create more texture, emphasize the expression, and add depth to the work. The contrast of colors is always important, followed by the free rhythm of lines and symbolic drawings that appear in random places within the works.
The way I create the paintings is to build layers of colors, then seek the effects that come from exposing the underlayers. I use old magazines, plaster, metal pieces, contour paste, gold leaf, etc., to add to the texture and depth, while constantly drawing, covering, and scraping through the surface to reach these underlayers.”
